| Seyyed al-Shohada hazrat imam Hussain as |
Imam Hussain (AS)
is called Seyyed al-Shohada (Arabic: سيد الشهداء), meaning the Master of Martyrs, because of his supreme sacrifice in the Battle of Karbala. He and his companions were brutally massacred by the forces of Yazid ibn Muawiyah, despite being unarmed and outnumbered. Imam Hussain's martyrdom is a reminder of the importance of standing up for truth and justice, even in the face of overwhelming odds.
There are many reasons why Imam Hussain is considered the Master of Martyrs. First, he was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and therefore a member of the Ahl al-Bayt (the Household of the Prophet). The Ahl al-Bayt are considered to be the most virtuous people on Earth, and so Imam Hussain's martyrdom is seen as a great loss to humanity.
