The virtues and virtues of Imam Zayn al-Abidin
There are
some personalities whose light of character cannot be dimmed even by the
distance of centuries. They become a beacon of light for the ages due to their
character, worship, patience and morals. Hazrat Imam Zainul Abideen (RA) is one
of those great personalities. After the tragedy of Karbala, he taught the
Muslim Ummah patience, steadfastness and the service of Allah Almighty.
Sayyiduna Imam Zainul Abideen (RA) was the son of Imam Hussain (RA), the
grandson of Sayyidatul Nisa Al-Alameen Fatima Zahra (RA) and Hazrat Ali (RA).
He is the shining gem of the family of the Prophet (PBUH) whose forehead shone
with the light of worship and whose heart was filled with the love of Allah.
Due to his frequent prostration, asceticism, knowledge and knowledge and service
to humanity, he became famous with the titles Zainul Abideen (RA) meaning the
adornment of worshippers and Sajjad (RA) meaning the one who prostrates a lot.
The blessed life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is a clear proof of the
fact that despite trials, the determination of a person whose relationship with
his Lord is strong cannot be shaken.
The proof of
his fear of God was that once, when he put on Ihram for Hajj, he did not recite
the Talbiyah. People asked, “O Messenger of Allah, are you not reciting the
Talbiyah, that is, Labbayk Allahum Labbayk?” The Prophet (peace be upon him)
became confused and said, “I am afraid that I will say Labbayk and Allah will
not say La Labbayk.” People said, “O Messenger of Allah, how can you put on
Ihram without saying Labbayk?” Hearing this, the Prophet (peace be upon him)
recited the Talbiyah loudly.
“Labbayk
Allahum Labbayk Labbayk La Sharik Lak Labbayk In Al-Hamd Wal-Ni’mat Lak
Wal-Mulk La Sharik”
Due to the
fear of God, he (peace be upon him) trembled and fell down from the back of his
camel and became unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he would recite
Labbayk and then faint again. In this state, he (peace be upon him) performed
Hajj. (Awliya Rijal Al-Hadith).
He (may
Allah be pleased with him) was so knowledgeable about forgiveness that one day
while performing ablution, a vessel slipped from the hand of a slave girl and
hit his face, causing him to be injured. He raised his head and looked at her,
and she recited a verse from the Holy Quran about the virtue of forgiveness. He
(may Allah be pleased with him) listened and forgave her and said, "Go,
for Allah's sake, you are free." (Tarikh Ibn Asakir).
